ABOUT EQUINE SPORTS MASSAGE
WHAT IS EQUINE SPORTS MASSAGE?
Equine sports massage is something that should go hand in hand with the maintenance of your horse. Sports massage is muscular/soft tissue work.
The sports massage involves mostly hands on movements and where needed infrared, ultrasound, tens machine, use of facial edge tool, hypervolt, heat pad and balance mats.
I will also do myofascial release and some alignment work.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
The session will last up to 2 hours depending on what is found. My goal is to make your horse feel great, give more range of movement and better mobility. I will not leave until I am fully happy that the area I am treating is better.
WHAT CAN MY HORSE DO AFTER A SESSION?
I will always highly recommend that your horse is not ridden on the same day (after session) or the following day. There after continue as normal. It is better if the horse can be turned out after the session although I understand that is not always an option. Please note that in some cases your horses will urinate/defecate and drink more than usual and can be sore/tight the next day.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO SO THAT YOU CAN WORK WITH MY HORSE?
I will ask that the horse is tied up, whether in stable or out side is fine, where ever the horse is happier. They are able to eat at the time if this makes them more settled. Last thing I want is for it to be a bad experience for your horse.
I will also sometimes ask to see your horse move where applicable where I can see how well they are tracking up, check alignment and detect lameness etc.
HOW OFTEN WILL MY HORSE NEED TREATING?
It is totally dependent on the horse and owner as to how often the sessions are. I will always state every 3 to 6 months for anything routine and 2 to 3 months if there are any ongoing issues.
However, this being said if your horse is feeling fab and you get to 6 months then we can do a later session, like wise if its been 1 or 2 months and your horse has slipped in field not feeling himself we can do sooner. There is no rule of thumb.
WHAT HOURS DO YOU WORK?
I will always try to accommodate appointments I work Monday to Friday and will work early hours as well as late evening and bank holidays. However, I don’t work weekends.
